August 24, 2012 The Society hosted the annual Redfield Schools Reunion on Saturday August 18, from noon till nearly 5 pm. There were about 25 in attendance, and among the number were two graduates of the one time full school district. Doris Brown Allen (1938) and Edward Simson (1942) both were pleased to be present, and also spoke on the phone with fellow graduate Yvette “Chiki” Dahl Harmon in Florida. There were a number of Yerdons present, representing the number of that family who attended schools in Greenboro. Harwood “Satch” Yerdon was able to attend thanks to his good friends Gordon and Nancy Soule who brought him for the day. Satch got to spend quality time with his Uncle Vic Yerdon, as well as many other cousins. Both Satch and Doris Allen utilized our new lift to their comfort getting in and out of the building. Cards were signed for several that were known to be ill or deserving of extra “hello”. Another person phoned was Carol Williams Pelosi in North Carolina who had sent up many great items of school memorabilia from her family. Carol’s Mom Marian Williams was a teacher at Redfield. Special thanks to Fay Anne Colvin and sister Paulette Yerdon for organizing the event, and to Erma Schroeder and Kathy Watson for seeing to the catering. The week before the Redfield event, Erma and Kathy led the catering of the private Jackson-Belser wedding reception that took place at our facility. Some very nice pictures are on our facebook page. For the event we were given 100 chair covers and some new table cloths to add to our inventory. The facility was all decked out in white with red ribbons on the chairs and tulips on the tables. The reception went very well thanks to Erma, Kathy and also Doreen Tilton who helped with desserts. Much credit is owed to the mother of the bride, Selena Belser, who spent the week previous to the affair cleaning and organizing our main room with us. Selena and Jim made a generous donation with the new linins and some other odds and ends for which we are grateful. Our next meeting will be Saturday August 25th and will be held after the noon luncheon. Slate of officers for the September annual meeting will be presented and other business transacted. We expect to have a good amount of research work take place as always. Sharon Turo, our librarian has been particularly busy with the library research area of late, and the easy access files are in great demand. One project of note lately is the updating of the family bible files. We are in search of old family bibles to copy the records for our collection. Quality printed copies will be made to return to the owners after scanning. Half-Shire can be reached at or by phone 315-298-2986. We are open Thursday-Sunday from 11-3pm and also have a good website at and a facebook page at “Half Shire”
